Memorial Day, Rolling and New Commitments

Blog posts 2 weeks in a row! This new found routine is awesome. I feel like so much has happened in the last week. I can't wait to look back on this in 10 years and see all the changes happening. I'm kinda bummed that I couldn't keep up with it during the first 6 months, but I have plenty of pictures that will have to do.

Loving Broccoli!

The biggest highlight of the week is that Henley finally figured out how to roll from his tummy to back! He's been rolling the other direction since he was 3 months old. He hasn't quite learned that he can roll to get places yet, so I'm happy about that. I have also finally begun nursing him to sleep in bed, and he will actually let me leave once he stops nursing! Alex and I have had 2 hours a night to ourselves which is very refreshing. To those who don't know, I have spent the last 6 months going to bed at 8pm with Henley. I don't really know what to do with myself once he's asleep! haha

We had a wonderful Memorial Day with the grand-peeps. Hal broke out the BBQ and cooked up tasty shrimp, pepper, potatoes, mushrooms and corn on the cob and blueberry pie for dessert. Henley ate some avocado, beets, and broccoli. After lunch, we headed out to pool and Henley had so much fun swimming. Tegan even jumped in after him. :) I love pool days because Henley sleeps so well afterwards.

Tegan and Henley enjoying the pool.
Lastly, I have had so much fun meal planning this week because we have officially recommitted to vegetarianism! It is something that I have always been very passionate about, but I always found a way to convince myself that it was too hard. I have been on and off since I was 16 years old (Holy Cow-12 years!) I'm thinking it will be easier this time since not only am I a better cook, but Alex has decided to make this commitment with me. I want to be able to teach Henley to be kind to all beings and to protect our environment, and I don't think I can do this while still eating meat. I am excited to get more creative in the kitchen and see what we can create. My favorite meal we had this week was this Roasted Butternut Squash and Black Bean Enchiladas recipe! So tasty and filling. I have also started drinking this Green Monster Smoothie every morning and I feel so good and full until lunchtime.

Eating beets means we are headed straight to the bath!

Push Ups!
That's all for now! Love you all and Happy Thursday!

6 months old and finally getting into the swing of things!

Hey All!

It has been a ridiculously long time since I have attempted to do a blog post. The last blog post I created deleted itself as soon as I pressed "Publish," so I have been a little worried to post again. :)

A lot has happened since I last posted. Most notably, Henley has finally gotten into a somewhat normal nap routine. Initially, I was opposed to the idea of trying to set a routine. I thought that I would just go with the flow and eventually a routine would happen naturally...not so much. There were days at the beginning where Henley would go 10 hours without sleeping! At about 3 months or so I started religiously putting him in our baby carrier and he would fall asleep within 10 minutes or so. The last 3 months EVERY nap has been in the carrier. haha Kind of a pain, but I get plenty of computer time. Just recently we have been getting him to nap on the bed and in the car (Crazy I know!). So hopefully I will get to update this blog on a more regular basis for all those friends and family that we don't see too often...including my mom!

Henley is now 6 months old and here's are some interesting updates:
1) He is now eating solids! We are trying a Baby Led Weaning approach, so he basically gets whatever we are eating. So far he loves avocado, strawberry, and broccoli. He is not so hot on banana.
2) He can sit up for a few minutes at a time. His favorite game is knocking over blocks with a spoon.
3) He LOVES the doorway jumper more than life itself! Tegan is still not so sure about it.
4) He has one little tooth that broke through a few days ago, but hasn't moved since.
5) He is getting so much better with other people. He pretty much smiles at anybody that will give him attention.
6) He can finally sit in the shopping cart and he loves it!

I love being able to stay home with this little boy. It definitely can get monotonous some days, but I am so grateful that I am around to witness all these little changes each day. I couldn't imagine leaving him for 8 hours a day. I have the most supportive husband in the world and I can't thank him enough for making my stay-at-home-mom dreams possible!

Summer is coming and we have so much fun stuff planned. We moved back to California to be able to get out with friends and family and explore this amazing state! Some of our outings include: farmers markets, outdoor movies, zoo trips, brewery tours, Seaworld, camping, baseball games, aquarium visits and so much more. Maybe there will even be a date night somewhere in there (hint hint). haha

I hope you all enjoyed this post and hopefully I'll see you back here next week!
